150th Anniversary of the Dakota Uprising

Plans are being made for the weekend of August 24, 25 and 26th of 2012 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Dakota Uprising. Various events will be held at Fort Belmont, Ashley Park in downtown Jackson and at other locations throughout Jackson County. A schedule will be published on the Fort Belmont website and updated as new details become available. Tours to various locations that were part of the 1862 uprising, a church service in honor of those who lost their lives in the uprising and a dedication ceremony of the 1909 monument that is located in Ashley Park are a few of the events planned. The Jackson County Historical Society will take an active role, along with Fort Belmont, in hosting the various activities on the weekend.
